Animals & Inspiration

Meet the Animals

Every creation at The Snuggly Viking has a story, and many of those stories begin with the animals themselves. From the soft fleece of Suffolk sheep to the gentle hum of Norfolk alpacas, the animals I work with are at the heart of everything I do.

The sheep I source come from small, high-welfare farms in South Suffolk. These are happy, healthy animals, grazing freely on lush pastures under attentive care. Each fleece is unique, reflecting the individual character of the sheep it came from, and I take great pride in honouring that uniqueness in every piece I create. While I don’t reveal the exact locations of these farms, I can assure you that every animal is treated with respect and compassion.

In Norfolk, I work with local alpaca farms, where these gentle creatures have lived as pets all their lives. Their soft, luxurious fleece is perfect for the delicate, hand-crafted pieces I make, and their calm, inquisitive nature is a joy to be around. I often spend time with them at the farm, selecting fleece and observing their behaviour, which often inspires the designs I create in my studio.

These animals are more than just sources of fibre—they are part of the story behind each unique piece. Every curl, scarf, or finished accessory carries a little piece of their world, their care, and the pastoral landscapes they call home. They remind me why I started this journey over 15 years ago: to celebrate natural materials, craftsmanship, and individuality.

By choosing ethically sourced fleece and alpaca fibre, I ensure that my work supports responsible farming practices and contributes to the wellbeing of the animals. It’s a connection between maker, animal, and customer that makes every piece feel truly special.

Whether you are browsing finished pieces or purchasing components to make your own, you are holding more than wool—you are holding a story, a process, and the lives of animals that inspire creativity every day.
